چکیده
This paper presents a novel analytical model and an efficient admission control algorithm for IEEE 802.11 DCF access mechanism. In contrast to the previous approaches that only analyzed the saturated status of IEEE 802.11 networks, both saturated and unsaturated states of network are analyzed and the impacts of error-frame rate and retransmission limit are also taken into account based on an improved Markov chain model. Taking the throughput difference between saturated and unsaturated states as the residual bandwidth, an efficient admission control algorithm is designed to utilize the network resources effectively. Extensive simulation data demonstrate that the admission control algorithm is efficient and can make the effective utilization of network resources.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks
Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...
متن کاملAn Efficient Multipolling Mechanism for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LANs
To expand the support for applications with QoS requirements in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), the 802.11E task group was formed to enhance the current IEEE 802.11 Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The multipolling mechanism was discussed in the task group, but some problems remain unsolved. In this paper, we show a novel design of the multipolling mechanism with the advantages of hi...

متن کاملAn Optimal Rate Adjustment Algorithm for Medium Access Control Protocol in 802.11 Multi Hop Ad Hoc Networks
Problem statement: Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol plays an important role in providing a fair and efficient allocation of limited bandwidth in wireless LANs. In IEEE 802.11 standard protocol, data rate selection is not specified. Rate control is the process of switching data rates dynamically based on channel conditions, with the target of selecting the rate that will provide the maximum ...

This thesis contributes toward the design of a quality-of-service (QoS) aware network layer for wireless ad hoc networks. With the lack of an infrastructure in ad hoc networks, the role of the network layer is not only to perform multihop routing between a source node and a destination node, but also to establish an end-to-end connection between communicating peers that satisfies the service le...
